Hockey Umpires

Northants Hockey has formed a sub-committee called the Hockey Umpires Group (HUG) which is open to anyone interested in umpiring to join.  Membership for this group is currently free and members will be kept informed of all major rules changes, local and regional seminars as well as forthcoming courses.

To join just complete the on-line HUG registration form.

Umpires are always in short supply and with leagues requiring a minimum Level 1 qualification the pressure is on clubs to get personnel qualified.

The next Level 1 Umpire Award course is:

Date Venue Time
15th & 22nd June 2011 Moulton Sports Complex 7.00-10.00pm

If you would like to register please complete the Umpiring Level 1 Application Form.

England Hockey has adopted the Three Lions logo made famous by their football counterparts."Three Lions on our shirts too" Barry Middleton & Kate Walsh model the new shirts.

England Hockey say "We have ambitious goals regarding the growth of our sport which, among other things require the attraction and retention of more players, volunteers, fans and officials. In looking for this growth we are competing in a very competitive market place and, as with any product (and sport is no different here), the way we present ourselves in terms of brand, style and image is an important part of any marketing strategy.

For most people, England, when related to sport, is represented by either 3 lions or a single rose. We want to make sure that when the broader audience sees our elite players and information from our governing body they automatically connect these with the highest level of the sport and that means connecting with the national emblem. Hence the move to three lions."

England Hockey go on to say "We are not trying to look like football and cricket. We are ensuring we are seen as comparable to other elite international sports and we are doing that by aligning ourselves with the emblem of England not the image of those sports".

Northampton Lions & Saints Merge

Two of the top Northamptonshire Hockey Clubs have now successfully completed their merger.

Northampton Saints, who have recently won promotion to the Womens National League, have struggled to develop a consistant flow of young players. In turn Lions, who recently moved to the Moulton College campus have not been able to retain significant adult player numbers.

Both concluded that a fully merged club will provide the platform for potentially two National League sides under the banner "Northampton Hockey Club".

The newly merged club has recently reported a record increase in membership which will mean that more teams will be created in the coming months.
