Jayne Tatham-Harris 1946 - 2010

Jayne was born in Farnborough, the eldest of six children. In her teens she worked at a Dr. Barnardo’s orphanage and then became a nanny. This was the beginning of her lifelong love of children and her concern for those children born in deprived circumstances.

She worked for a while in the restaurant business in Northampton and it was during this time she met and fell in love with her second husband, Colin.

She finally settled on a caring role working first for Homestart and then Family Care where, as an outreach support worker, she taught families less fortunate than us how to love, how to care and how to make a proper home.

She threw herself into charity work by raising thousands of pounds for cancer research and volunteering to work with Save the Children and The Big Issue Foundation, helping those whom life has cast aside.

In 2002 she took part in the Marie Curie Cancer Care Ladies Driving Challenge where she drove a transporter, fire engine, tank, lorry, rally car, JCB, and double-decker bus. In 2006 she walked 60km for Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

In 2009 she ran in the “Race for Life” in aid of cancer research. In November 2009 she walked 18 miles through London on the “Big Night Out Walk” raising money for The Big Issue Foundation. She helped out at practically all the fund raising activities in Ravensthorpe, This was a lady who will be sorely missed by us all.

Jayne had four children and one step-son, twelve grandchildren and one great granddaughter. Our deepest sympathy goes out to them and to her husband, Colin.

During the last five months of her life she lived with bravery and dignity as she did her best to help her family come to terms with her illness and to prepare them for her death.

The fact is that nothing can prepare us for the pain that is felt when the moment comes.
